Big Breakfast with a House Full of People - 05.03.2009

Go figure, it turns out that kids like to be fed often. Despite the fact that my cousins and my kids stayed up until after midnight on Saturday eating White Castle and leftover pizza, they all woke up starving the next day. I made the kids, and Tony, and Olivia a big breakfast.

Connor had a cheese omelet and bacon. He ate the bacon before I could get a picture of it.

Emma asked for eggs "made so that I can stab them and they'll bleed the yellow stuff". She, Dylan, and Tony all had bacon, toast, and eggs over easy (the kind that bleed).

Emma's a little genius and decided mid-meal that her egg would be better off topped with bacon and sandwiched between two slices of buttered toast. I like how that kid's mind works!

Ian had a couple of pieces of toast and then asked for some leftover Chicken Rings from White Castle.

Emma finished her breakfast and then asked for leftover cheeseburgers and an apple. Awesome!

*I know that after reading the last few posts, those of you with children are dying to drop your kids off at our house for an overnight visit so that I can instill proper eating and sleeping habits in to your spawn. I would be only too happy to oblige! Just let me know! *

Conducting and Experiment, Thursday - 4.16.2009

On Thursday morning I decided to test the theory that cast iron is supposed to be non-stick. I use my cast iron skillet quite often but always season it with a little bit of olive oil first. To test the non-stickness of my skillet, I decided to fry and egg in the skillet without any oil.

This started off well enough, and i was able to flip the egg without breaking the yolk but it took a lot of effort to get it unstuck from the pan.

Here's what the pan looked like after the egg was removed. My cast iron skillet is clearly not non-stick.

My egg sandwich turned out great though - one fried egg with a slice of american cheese on a multi-grain english muffin.

Late lunch/early dinner with Connor while Ian was in speech therapy. It was a nice day so we decided to sit outside.

Connor had two baked potatoes with cheese, a few chicken nuggets, and a small frosty from Wendy's.

Ian is attending a summer reading program at this school this summer, and Thursday was the introduction meeting for the parents and kids. The school was kind enough to provide Flyer's pizza for dinner and Ian was kind enough to make a really weird face when I took his picture.

Seasonal Egg Festivities - 4.10.2009

I had planned to decorate Easter eggs with the kids on Saturday, but they just couldn't wait that long. I finally broke down at 8:30 PM on Friday night and told them that we could go ahead and decorate the eggs.

I was happily surprised to find collapsible dye cups included with the dye kit that we bought. Yeah! No coffee cups to scrub later! I made the mistake of expecting the kids to share the same dye cups last year and it was non-stop fighting... "Mom, Ian is making the yellow dirty!!!!".... "MOM, CONNOR WON'T GIVE ME THE BLUE DYE, WHAAA!" I wised up this year and got them each their own dye kits.

Easter egg coloring - pants optional (for Ian at least).

Half way done...

The eggs came out really pretty considering that each egg was washed in at least 3 different colors of dye.

The finished product - eggs decorated with goofy faces. Ian named egg of his eggs after superheros: Spider-Man, Venom, Batman, etc.

The Stewarts Versus Food! 3.28.2009

I'll start today's blog update with a big FUCK YOU to whoever stole a bunch of stuff out of Tony's car on Friday night/Saturday morning. They took his backpack, Ipod, my camera, the Sirius radio, cash, and about 10 Truth For Sanity cds. They also stole Tony's new U2 CD. Not only is this person an ASSHOLE, but they also have shitty taste in music. I wouldn't wish a U2 CD on my worst enemy.

I'm not one to sit around and be pissy over something that I can't change, so our day had to go on.

Breakfast... Eggs over easy and dry toast. I ate half of the toast before I broke down and put some Smart Balance on it.

Lunch... Campbell's Heathy Request Chicken and Noodle Soup. Once the soup was thoroughly peppered and salted, it was pretty good (for canned soup).

Now for the big show! As I've posted before, we love the show Man Versus Food. We watched 3 episodes of Man Versus Food on Thursday night and decided that we should have a food challenge at some point over the weekend.

LOCATION: Rooster's on Henderson Road
PARTICIPANTS: Tony, Michelle, Connor, and Ian
BYSTANDERS: My mom and Stepdad
THE CHALLANGE: Pick your preferred type of chicken and the hottest sauce that you can tolerate. Eat all of your chicken. After you are finished eating, you are not permitted to wipe your face or hands with a napkin, take a drink, or leave the table for 5 minutes.

Tony picked bone-in wings with Donkey sauce (the 3rd hottest sauce available). Connor had 5 bone-in wings with medium sauce and a side of Donkey. I (the only TRUE competitor) had grilled chicken fingers with Killer sauce. Ian's challenged himself to do whatever the hell he wanted and eat only as much as he felt like. He had two boneless chicken fingers without sauce and a Diet Coke.

I don't consider Donkey sauce to be a challenge, but Tony's palate isn't as used to spice as mine is.

I should have gotten Super Killer sauce. I did sweat a bit while I ate mine, but it wasn't really a challenge. I have a very high tolerance for spicy foods.

Ian immediately declared himself the winner after one sip of soda and half of a chicken finger. My mom asked him why he's always making crazy hand gestures and he flatly replied "Because it makes me so super happy. Duh."

Ian finished his meal with a gum ball. He wanted everyone to know that blue gum balls turn your tongue blue!

AND THE WINNERS ARE: Connor and Michelle! Tony finished his wings but was immediately disqualified for using his napkin, taking a drink of beer, and going to the restroom. Ian was also declared a winner for his charming ways even though he failed to finish anything that he ordered.

Connor, Ian, and Michelle won! Tony Lost! HAHAHAHAHHAHHAHA!

My mom had Teriyaki chicken fingers, which are the most mild available, because she is a big girl-baby likes Teriyaki. My stepdad had 5 medium wings and a "all the meats" pizza. Unfortunately, the pictures of my mom's food didn't turn out.

And just for fun, here's a picture of our late night snack!

Stewart Family Breakfast. 3.21.2009

My husband, my kids, and I are all picky eaters to some degree. Connor doesn't eat much meat, Tony only eats meat, I don't eat red meat, and Ian lives on chicken nuggets and Gogurt. Breakfast is a rare meal that we all eat together. Granted, Ian only eats the toast and Connor only eats the bacon and I'll only eat turkey bacon... but it's about the closest that we come on agreeing on a single meal. The only meal that we can agree on is White Castle. We all love White Castle, for obvious reasons... White Castle is awesome.

Getting ready to cook breakfast... 5 more reasons that I have a Sam's Club Membership: Large quantities of whole wheat bread, eggs, turkey bacon, bacon, and Smart Balance.

Ian's breakfast... He eats his whole wheat toast in pairs, heavy on the Smart Balance spread. He had 4 slices of toast this morning. And three packs of Pez, but I didn't get a picture of the Pez.

Tony's breakfast. Three eggs over easy and bacon. I had two eggs over easy, 3 slices of turkey bacon, and a piece of whole wheat toast. That's only 6 Weight Watchers points for those of you who are counting. Connor had a plate of bacon for breakfast.

Tony is surprisingly supportive of this new blog. He made sure to let me get a picture before he grabbed his plate off of the counter. He even advised that I move the plate a little to the left so that it had full sunlight on it, making for a better picture.
